Though I like this album, I'm sorry fans of the debut but Ride The Lightning is a COLOSSAL step up. Kill Em All is good, and is possibly the most atmospheric album they've made which I love it for, but it's problem is this: all the songs are tooaalike, they aren't adventurous. It's like Metallica came along and thought "we'll make an album to establish our sound " but not to blow everyone away or experiment. One of the few good Metallica albums... I mean come on, MoP is so overrated,... And justice for all was decent, the black album is terrible, and ride the lightning is almost as much of a masterpiece as this album +++kill 'em all is just a decent debut, nothing really special, and definitely worse than the black album.

I just bought this on vinyl and after listening to it again after so long I had to put in a vote. While not as polished and refined as their later albums this is the one that changed it all back in '83. In a decade of forgettable hair bands and glam metal this debut was a "holy mother of god what is this..." for everyone. Great album that deserves to be higher than 5.

Easily the best Metallica album and definitely much better than the black album. It is the fastest and most aggressive LP they have ever put out and has like 10 songs but isn't too long. Every song is amazing and I never find myself skipping one. Pure metal front the back and is criminally underrated in my opinion. (plus you can also here Mustaine's influence all over this record, great stuff! )

With hits like the four horsemen, seek and destroy, hit the lights, and whiplash this album is the best in terms of classic metallica. James Hetfeild's voice is the best on kill 'em all and Dave killed tons of great guitar solos. Cliff Buttons work on bass stands as greatness especially with pulling teeth on the album, flat out the greatest metallica album and possibly the greatest metal album ever.

The fact that the Black Album is above Kill 'Em All is saddening. Kill started the genre (with Mustaine's songwriting help) and cannot be overlooked or undervalued. Kill and Justice are my 2 favorites with Metallica but Kill 'Em All is the best
