This was by far the best movie of the 8. The first was the exploration, so everything is awesome and new. The second was meh, because of the mediocre book. The 3rd film was well-balanced and well written, but missed some wizard flavour and detail in my opinion. The 4th and 5th were too compressed to be good. The 6th is a hidden gem, but this one, ooh, so full of impression and expression combined. The toughness and pain, loneliness, the search for the impossible, the brilliant scenes, making the best of the worst, all fits well in this one. The 8th movie was just a complete deception after this masterpiece. It felt too rushed, while the storytelling was in the movie itself.P.S. Nick Cave is always a +1!

I think this is the most underrated movie in the franchise. I've always liked it because I feel like it tries to do something different than the other films. In each of the first six there's always that moment of comic relief, but deathly hallows- part one is probably the most unrelentingly dark movie in the franchise. It just felt so real to me. I also love the o' children where Harry and Hermione dance together. It's one of my favorite movie scenes of all time. Makes me want to get every time.

The genius of the Harry Potter films and books is the way the characters grow with the audience, and with this, the darkness of the story. I think an element of the Potter films that is overlooked because of the 'kids film' label, is the darkness. Deathly Hallows P1 is a very dark movie, as dark as any adult fantasy film (LoTR etc), and it should be appreciated on this level. For me, this is the best of the series.

This movie is very underrated because it is seen as the "less exciting" portion of the book. However, despite the awesome ending, I still think the suspense held me in this movie more than many others. As a standalone movie (not considering part 2), this is my second favorite next to Azkaban.
