Modern civilization and democracy originated in Persia, and the Achaemenid Persian Empire is still the most powerful empire in human history, more powerful than Rome, Britain, or even the US today. The influence that Persian civilization has had on the world, in particular in the development of European history and socio-political institutions is criminally under-rated. The Achaemenid Empire was the first true cosmopolitan empire in history, and it set the model for pretty much every empire to follow, including the Romans who learned from the Persians that maintaining large geographic and multi-ethnic empire required social tolerance, as well as military and political restraint when dealing with neighbouring empires. Likewise the later Sassanian empire was the foundations upon which early Arab Islamic civilization was undoubtedly built, and it was the Arabs who preserved most of the works of roman and Greek antiquity which later resulted in the Renaissance which brought Europe out of the Dark ages.

Its definitely either Iran or Greece, the UK and the US are influential but to say they are more influential than these two countries shows a clear lack of knowledge of history before the 17th century CE. Voting Iran because at least Greece is higher up, Iran definitely deserves higher than 9th. Plus, Iran influenced both Western and Eastern cultures quite heavily. Greece may have had a bigger impact where it did on life today, but the Achaemanid Empire was the largest by share of the population in history, and reached Greece, Egypt, Caucasus, and India, spreading its ideas all throughout.Maybe in a few hundred years, depending on how history goes, the US will overtake Greece and Iran, but for now, its definitely overshadowed by these two.
