If all the compliments in regards to Michigan are negative, the state must have a very low vibration. I don't think that people are being hypocritical by sharing their experiences. This is what this website is for, similar to Yelp. While you do have a good point about the UP being "nice, " that does not compensate for all the truthful comments about people not being kind. If 7 out 8 people say the people in Michigan are generally not nice, this evidence is factual. Also, bias may be used. Many of the commentators have traveled all over. Have you? You don't know if a state is truly rude unless you have something to compare it to. My advice to you is to get out of the UP, explore the world and come back to see if this hell on earth is really authentically nice. There is a difference between telling the truth and being rude. Ah Michigan... I've seen comments about the water crisis, emissions testing and Detroit. What in the hell does that have to do with being rude? Racist? There are racists everywhere, but I feel the Michigan is truly a diverse state. I'm a white dude and I worked in inner city Flint. People there treated me the same as anywhere else. The proof is in the facts: Flint Water Crisis, No Emissions Testing, high alcoholism, and depression rate. Detroit is one of the biggest cities in the country and has the least amount of people per mile. Everyone left for a reason and they're still leaving. For years, the surveys have always voted Detroit as the rudest city. This is not new information. The place is culturally poor, destitute in etiquett and manner, and there is a huge disparity of incomes in the suburbs of Detroit. Eminem doesn't even like this place and is always angry when he performs in other states. He carries the anger with him. The movie, 'The Five-Year Engagement depicts the helplessness and boredom and lack or friendliness and evolution amongst the provincials here. They ended up back in California for a reason. Many intelligent people know to never visit here unless they absolutely have to.

I've lived here my whole life, but I have traveled to Nebraska, Florida, Canada, China, Mexico, Missouri, Illinois, Ohio, New York, and a few other places. Despite my really funky voice (a messed up blend between an accent and a lisp), I've only been "bullied" once; by a boy a year younger than me. He just did the stereotypical eye pulling Asian thing, and mimicked my voice in a falsetto. (Really though, his eyes were squintier than mine. At the time, I mentally compared them to pig eyes). I won't say we're the nicest state, but probably not deserving of No. 5. I apologize if I sound hypocritical or biased to you. I didn't mean to, I promise!

It has the nicest, non judgemental people in the world, and the people below are more than happy than to apologize for the few who are rude. Passive Agressive Rude. At least In NYC, people tell you what the problem is. Here people walk around insolent and rude and never tell another what the problem is. Then the dis-ease spreads virally. If you were once a nice person and now live in Michigan, you may have turned into an angry, sad, guarded depressed person.A lot of people like to play victim out here. The environment is terrible: the air and the water. This state did not vote for Romney as a republican and voted for Trump over Hilary. Very few free thinkers.

Provincial thinking. Provincials habitat this state. Madonna was right. At a young age, I have lived in 4 different states and traveled all over the country and out of the country. The people here don't like outsiders, they're fake, and bullys. This place is pure hell. The state has nice parks and an adequate school system that's it. Rudest and most disgusting people I've ever encountered in my life. People are not friendly at all and very selfish. Also the whole state is incredibly racist and it gets worse the further north you go. The weather sucks and the fall and winters are mostly cloudy, dreary and depressing. People here have no manners and will cough and sneeze in public with no attempt at covering their mouths and couldn't care less if it lands on you! At work expect to be stabbed in the back, gossiped about and shunned especially if you are a well spoken attractive female. There's so much more to add but I don't have the time. I can't wait to get out of here and can't recommend anyone to move here.

Of the 8 states in the US I have lived Michigan is hands down the most rude. People here have no common decency or civility. They will say awful things like its common conversation and there is nothing wrong with it?!?! They live to cut others down and I think its because they fall into two categories the majority which is people who live for work (who are miserable judgmental jealous jerks) and the very few who work to live life, travel and experience. There are some awesome places to travel in this state, But people dont leave their town and if you didnt grow up in it you will never fit in expecially if you are a happy adventurous soul.
