The Comfortably Numb guitar solo is on a different level than the other solos on this list. Stairway to Heaven's solo is pretty good, but it does not come close to the depth and complexity of what Gilmour did in Numb. When I hear the first riff from that solo, especially the Pulse Concert performance, it instantly steals me away from wherever I am and doesn't bring me back until after the song ends. In this version, every note played by Gilmour feels like a new experiment done to an old classic with masterful success.I should probably never listen to this song while driving because the urge to close my eyes, air guitar on the steering wheel, and lose myself is too strong when this song starts.

Goosebumps all over every time I listen to it. We are talking about the "Greatest" solos here, not the "fastest" or the "craziest" solos. David's work has inspired my entire life. I've done things that I would have never done without his soul inspiring music. I've met Roger a couple of times and seen him perform several times, but my one wish would be to hear David play Cofortably Numb live. The great master at work. And his version of Fat Old Sun is remarkable. Don't even get me started on Echoes, but Comfotably Numb is definitely #1 in my book. (Side note: it was sad that none of the members of Pink Floyd showed up to The City Wakes for Syd Berrett in Cambridge, England. I went. Lucky enough to get Storm Thorgerson's book signing, watch Syd's sister paint, and party with Mick Rock. What an experience! )
