The album that - for many die-hard fans - truly defines the band Alter Bridge. It's hard to disagree with them (although I can say it's getting easier with every new release as AB expand their musical boundaries :D). Over half this album (8/13 songs) consists of some of AB's greatest hits (Ties That Bind, Come to Life, Brand New Start, Before Tomorrow Comes, Rise Today, Blackbird, Watch Over You, White Knuckles). The title track itself is unquestionably the best song the band have ever crafted.The only reason I don't rank this album as their best is due to the comparative quality of the less well-received songs on the album (most notably Break Me Down). If you can quantify any of Alter Bridge's work as "filler material", Blackbird likely accounts for a fair share of it. Of course, the definition of "filler material" in reference to Alter Bridge doesn't quite match up with the colloquial definition, as Alter Bridge is notorious for never releasing a bad song.
