I see Clara as Martha Jones done right. She can stand up to the doctor, doesn't crush on him and can do very good comedic banter all while being the heart of the series. There seems to be a common misconception that she "doesn't have a personality and is just eye candy" this is a perfectly valid point, as long as you don't watch any 12th doctor episodes. She is the Martha Jones we would have had if Tate delivered her lines less like a foghorn, and more like a human being. Human beings have subtlety. Jenna Coleman has the acting chops to convey that. As for Martha, Rose, Amy, Rory, etc., I love them all, but they always seemed a bit too helpless to be my favorite. Sarah Jane, on the other hand, is brilliant, and is definitely an amazingly close #2, but Clara Oswald is my personal favorite.

She came into her own with 12. Their chemistry was the best of any pair in the series yet. She stood up to him, but really loved him as a friend and understood some of his pain in a way no other companion has yet. She truly looked out for him and tried to bring out the absolute best in him (and he did the same for her). Her ending with the show was so amazingly sad, out of left field, and yet thoroughly in keeping with her character. She will be missed. The relationship she had with Danny was a plus for the series, despite the occasional distraction it could become. Two of her best episodes were "Face the Raven" and "Flatline."

I really enjoyed Clara's time on Doctor Who. She was extremely clever, and was always ready for a good adventure. Additionally, she wasn't afraid to stand up to the Doctor, despite her charming and seemingly lighthearted personality. I also enjoyed seeing her life away from the tardis, which we didn't touch on often with the other companions. This introduced us to another phenomenal character, Danny Pink, who nullified the need for the doctor to be a love interest. As, for all the people who claim Clara has no personality, look again. All in all, I think Clara was an incredible companion, and I hope to see more like her in the future.

Clara is the best companion. She has saved the Doctor SO MANY TIMES with Oswin, Victorian Clara, jumping into the time stream, convincing the Doctor to save the Time Lords, and convincing the Time Lords to save the Doctor by giving him more regenerations. Not to mention that Clara helped the Doctor in his choice of TARDIS, so she is the reason the show started. She helped him out of his Pondless moment where he was all 'bah' and has amazing chemistry with the 11th Doctor, way better than River ever did. Clara is also very attractive and no matter what people say about her personality (and they're wrong, they just think she has no personality because they were untrustworthy of her being a mystery), she is the best companion and I can't wait for Series 8 and I hope she is as good with Peter as she was with Matt. She is the companion that made me love Doctor Who.

Just did a 10 year binge and it's neck and neck between Rose and Clara. Martha didn't stick around long enough. And I grew tired of Amy's constant crying and emoting. She character wore on me. All the male characters played backup roles. Now if I had to have a real companion in the Dr. Who universe hands down it would be River Song. Maybe a close second here would be the Tardis itself.
