Sonic 1 is overrated, because yes it did revolutionnize gaming, but today it didn't aged well. I would go as far as saying that even for the time it wasn't that good since it was a game with limited continue created in 1991! A year where games like Megaman and Super Mario Bros 3 had unlimited continues. Not only that but some zones are not good for Sonic in this game. Especially Marble Zone, which is extremely slow paced, and ask you to make precise plateforming on small platforms with controls that are not adapted to controls like these (at least the IOS remake resolve the limited continues issues. At the end of the day Sonic 1 is still a good game, but far from flawless. - Eclipsmon

Sonic 2 and 3 were definitely better. It improved every flaw that Sonic 1 had and gave much more sense of speed. I still don't understand why people say the first Sonic is the best one. Sure it debuted one of the most iconic images on video game industry, but it doesn't mean it's the best one of the franchise.

Where to start. Frustrating level design, annoying characters, no incentive to go fast, no sort of story whatsoever, horrible controls, and not really doing anything to progress the game industry. Not to mention the same rehashed sequels. It has an ok soundtrack though. - l12345h
