The only reason why this one doesn't go with the rest of the series is because John Carpenter originally wanted the Halloween franchise to be a collection of stories, not focused on one particular story. Fans were so enraged at this to the point where John Carpenter immediately went to writing another. Which is why Part IV is aptly titled "The Return of Michael Myers". With that out of the way, if it was a standalone title, it would still be a bad movie. The acting is benign and the storyline makes no sense whatsoever. The camerawork is terrible and the score sounds like something a person with a lot of time on their hands would make in Mario Paint.
